He famously transformed his life from gangster to movie star after the former drug addict claimed to have been in trouble with the law an astonishing 20 to 25 times.

And Mark Wahlberg proved to be a star dad too this afternoon as he took a splash with his wife and four young children on the beach.

The 40-year-old family man was joined by his partner Rhea Durham plus their offspring Ella, 8, Michael, six, Brendan, three, and Grace, two.

Wahlberg was taking a break from filming his new movie Pain and Gain on Easter Sunday, a motion picture in which he plays a bodybuilder who gets caught up in an extortion ring.

The Catholic star showed off his ripped body which he has been putting on parade for the past few weeks as he films with WWE Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

After spending the morning attending an Easter service at church, the muscular man took his son Brendan in the water.

The doting dad looked adorable as she played with his little boy, picking him up by the arms and swinging him across the surface of the waves.

At one point the mother of his children joined them for a swim and received an affectionate kiss from the star.

After a cooling off in the ocean, Wahlberg relaxed on a lounge chair with a bikini clad Rhea and their daughter Grace Margaret.

The touching display is far cry from some of the bad boy role she plays in movies and his crime-centred past.

Before finding fame the actor was involved in numerous racially motivated attacks, which have seen him charged with attempted murder and serving two years in a Correction House jail.
