The upside-down kiss between Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson was one of the most memorable scenes in the 2002 version of the film.

Now fans of the franchise have the chance to decide if new Spidey Andrew Garfield and his love-interest Emma Stone can rival it.

A new preview of the upcoming blockbuster, released on July 3 in the UK and US, gives a tantalising glimpse of the pair in a clinch.

First glimpse: The much-anticipated kiss between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone features briefly in a new preview for The Amazing Spider-Man

Real-life couple: Life has imitated art for Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, who star in the upcoming movie
Emma, who is dating her co-star in real life, plays Gwen Stacy - the first love of Spider-Man's alter ego Peter Parker.
The 4-minute clip opens with a dramatic rescue as Garfield's Spidey saves a young boy from a burning car as it dangles precariously from a bridge.
Struggling against the flames, our hero hands his mask to the terrified child, telling him it will 'make him strong' before webbing him to safety.

Intense: Things get hairy for Spider-Man as he saves a young boy from a burning car

Safe and sound: Mask back on, Spider-Man returns the boy to his relieved father
The clip shows off the webbed wonder's superpowers with some no-holds-barred action scenes, and he spends plenty of time airborne, battling baddies and dangling by a thread.
Given its huge budget and high-profile stars, the 2012 reboot of the Spider-Man brand is sure to face intense scrutiny upon its release, but it's obvious no expense has been spared on the special effects.
It was announced yesterday that the film will premiere in India on June 29, four days before it hits British screens.
'Each of the Spider-Man franchise films has broken records on its release in this territory,' Sony Pictures India MD Kercy Daruwala said in a statement.

Just hanging: The webbed wonder takes advantage of his powers

Battling the bad guys: Spidey takes aim at The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans
As befits Spider-Man's dual identity, the preview also focuses on the all-too-human angst he suffers as Peter Parker.
'This life is not an easy one,' Garfield's Spider-Man intones.
'I've made enemies. Powerful enemies. Put those I love in danger. But when your past is a mystery, how do you ever stop looking for the truth?'

Just a regular guy: As Peter Parker, Spider-Man struggles with the knowledge that he is putting those he loves in danger

Troubled soul: Garfield's Spider-Man takes some alone time, set off against the city skyline
Lovers of the original Marvel comics will be pleased to see their hero has retained his sense of humour. Dodging a blade, he tells one car thief: 'You've found my weakness - it's small knives!'
There are hints that the quest for answers may find fulfillment, as Welsh actor Rhys Ifans - who plays villain The Lizard - promises the young man the truth about his absent father, Richard Parker.
Ifans co-stars as scientist-turned-reptile Dr Curt Connors, who longs for the human race to be replaced with super reptiles.
With two months still to go, the film's legions of fans will have to wait to see if he succeeds.

What's behind the mask? Dr Curt Connors (played by Rhys Ifans) offers to tell Peter Parker the truth about his mutation - and his past

Spider-Man's not the only one with an alter-ego: Rhys Ifans plays both Dr Curt Connors and reptile wrongdoer The Lizard

Brooding: Garfield will swing onto screens in the UK and US on July 3 this year

They still haven’t admitted they are dating but Emma Stone took the opportunity to let the world know that her The Amazing Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield was her man on a romantic stroll this weekend.

The actors were spotted walking through New York being very touchy-feely with one another and at one point stopping to enjoy a kiss.

After enjoying a lunch in Manhattan’s Chelsea district, Garfield, 28 and Stone, 23, wrapped their arms around each other in a rare display of affection off-set.

Confirming their love: Emma Stone pulled Andrew Garfield in for a kiss in the middle of a New York street this weekend

The pair looked rather cosy for people who have just developed a friendship while filming this summer’s expected blockbuster.

While the British boy managed to relatively keep his cool as they roamed the streets of the Big Apple, Emma was all over her man like a rash.

Working off a lovely meal at Tenth Avenue’s Cookshop, which serves reasonably priced soups, salads as well as more hearty dishes on their menu, the couple giggled their way down a quiet road before moving out onto a busier street.

Cosying up: The Amazing Spider-Man co-stars have been trying to keep their rumoured relationship under wraps up until now

Although she has admitted she is indeed seeing a special someone, in the past she has avoided divulging the identity of her man.

Last year she reacted in shock to suggestions they were an item: ‘Oh my god, you can't be friends with anyone any more, can you? We're...we're..., we get along very well.’

However she took the opportunity to pull Andrew in for a peck which just touched the corner of his mouth, confirming their romance.

Heartthrob Andrew and his red-haired flame dressed down for their outing, both wearing sunglasses whilst wrapping up warm.

Carrying a hot beverage, the actress who plays Gwen Stacy opposite Garfield in the movie released July 3 in the United States, was overjoyed to be spending time with her real-life superhero.

Emma, 23, and Andre, 28, were squeezing in some quality time ahead of the promotion schedule for their movie released in the United States July 23

Emma was also seen catching up with US Vogue editor Anna Wintour as they dissected the show once it had come to a close.

The clean, architectural and unadorned style that Costa has crafted as his Calvin Klein signature seemed a perfect fit for the two starlets he had chosen to invite to the coveted front row seats.

Costa purposely created a looser hourglass shape for his collection, showing off clothes that give room to move and breathe, sculpting stiff wool fabrics into outfits with rounded jewel necklines and a little extra fabric at the hips.

Speaking backstage after the show, he described his Autumn 2012 collection as 'mysterious, sexy and super urban.'

He added: 'The iconography for this is all super modern.'

Keira Knightley shows off her slender frame in a little black lacy dress... but gets it wrong with clumpy heels

For someone with a delicate and tiny frame like Keira Knightley, a light, sheer black dress is the perfect outfit to flatter and define.

And the actress got it spot on last night at as she arrived at an event in New York in a very pretty black lace and heavy silk dress.

But unfortunately, it appeared that she hadn't thought too much about her footwear as she teamed the Nina Ricci dress with heavy black Roger Vivier velvet heels and thick black tights, a look that did nothing to flatter her slender legs.

Lovely in lace: Keira's dress is by Nina Ricci and flattered her slender frame with its lace panel and full heavy silk skirt
But the thick strapped velvet shoes struck a odd note and made her look rather morbid. Perhaps Keira should have opted for a thinner heel with delicate straps and sheerer tights.
