Amongst the dramatic metallic, lace and even crocodile skin floor-length gowns, Gwyneth Paltrow still managed to steal the show in a lovely lilac minidress at this evening's Met Ball in New York City.

The 39-year-old showed off the stunning results of her strict macrobiotic diet and extreme exercise regime in the backless outfit, which showed off plenty of skin.

The halterneck satin design sliced the sides her ribcage, displaying just enough side cleavage to give the outfit an oomph of sexiness.

The dress's flirty hemline featured a mini-length at the front and longer-length at the back, as well as soft blue paillettes pockets.
Gwyneth wore her hair up in a sleek bun to emphasize the backless number, which fastened around her neck to show off her muscular back.
She completed the look with a variation of all metallic accessories, including gunmetal grey peep toe stilettos complete with bejeweled heel, and a copper satin clutch.

The actress also wore intricate diamond hoop earrings featuring an emerald leaf design on the inside.
The Talented Mr Ripely star wore very minimal make-up on her complexion, letting her gorgeous natural glow shine through.
Gwyneth's red-carpet coup comes after she had a fashion mishap just the night before.

But she failed to make it look sexy when she went braless in the sheer front ensemble.
Gwyneth posed with friend Amanda De Cadenet and designer Diane von Furstenberg.
De Cadenet, also 39, threw a dinner to promote her new series The Conversation, which is executive produced by Demi Moore, 49.
