Another one bites the dust! Tasmin Khan becomes latest Daybreak casualty after she is axed from breakfast show

As if struggling with the post festive blues isn't enough; Tasmin Khan has become the latest Daybreak casualty after being axed from the show.

She follows in the footsteps of Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who were fired before Christmas.

The British journalist, 31, read her final story yesterday and is now said to have set her sights on a career across the Atlantic.

A source told The Mirror: 'Her contract was up for renewal but she was part of the old show which struggled, so she had to go.'

Khan, a graduate from Oxford University, joined the ITV1 show in January 2010 as a news presenter for both Daybreak and Lorraine.

She said: 'I’ve had a fabulous time at Daybreak. Now I’ve got exciting meetings planned in the States.'

However, she should seek comfort in the fact that despite the public humiliation of being fired, Bleakley has found success since departing.

The Northern Irish beauty, 32, will now host Dancing On Ice after former presenter Holly Willoughby stepped down to front BBC series The Voice.

As Khan prepares to find fame in the US, Lucy Watson will fill her shoes next week as producers search for a replacement.

Khan bowed out humbly, simply tweeting yesterday: 'I've had a fabulous time at @Daybreak. I look fwd (sic) to watching it flourish & leave it in the hands of a great team. Now I just need to SLEEP!'

She also implied she has already had an influx of offers, saying: 'I'm off Stateside to explore a few opportunities that are too good to miss out on!'
