He kicked off the New Year performing at the Sydney Resolution concert, partying into the early hours of Monday morning at Bondi Icebergs in a wild 72 hour binge.

But it appears that Jamiroquai front man Jay Kay has no intention of slowing down, and was still going strong yesterday as he warmed up for the Sydney Festival First Night.

The 42-year-old lifted his top to show off his midriff to the watching crowd as he sipped a Corona, rubbing his belly against a pole and posing for his audience.

He covered most of his bearded face with a peaked cap and sunglasses, but still appeared to be in a sunny mood despite what must have been an exhausting week.

Perhaps having kept a relatively low profile for the last few months he was pleased to get a little more attention.

Speaking a few hours before his New Year's Eve concert, he said: 'Uhhh, what is the vibe, I dunno, we just need to find out what we're playing but it should be pretty good, we've done 70 gigs this year so we're pretty hot, we know what we're doing.'

'I've never done a NYE gig before, but I've never had a problem with Australian crowds, they don't seem to have a problem enjoying themselves.'

'The really important thing is that they're freezing their asses off in England, that's what I really want to know. I want to hear things like minus 10, freezing, fog,' he added generously.

'To be honest at one point I thought I wasn't gonna do it because I'd had enough of doing the gigs, but then I thought it's quite a special thing, it's a long way to come, we only got here yesterday evening.'

Asked why he had decided to perform, he replied: 'I'm 42 today, it might be that when I'm 48 I may not be in the game.'

'What I normally do, well I swing it all the way through from the 30th to the 31st, get home and have a do at home.'

'We did a gig a while back and we got some fireworks and they were pretty good, it's such a great backdrop.'

When queried about his New Year resolutions he replied: 'Get laid more.'
