'It was brutal': J-Lo describes the moment American Idol contestant Imani Handy collapsed in front of her

Hollywood Week is proving to be almost too gruelling for some contestants.

Last week, Symone Black fell off the stage in front of the judges and last night, 17-year-old Imani Handy collapsed and fainted as she attempted to audition.

And Jennifer Lopez, 42 , told Jay Leno, that Imani had actually fainted twice that fateful day during Hollywood Week.

'It was brutal,' J.Lo explains. 'They were just tired, the pressure, something.'

'I think she had fainted once already, earlier, if I remember correctly,' J.Lo says.

'She came out and we were kinda hoping she could hold it together.'

All three judges look shocked by the fall, which happens right in front of fellow contestant Johnny Keyser.

But she wasn't the only hopeful suffering, as a strange malaise seemed to sweep across proceedings on Wednesday night's show.

Many contestants had to overcome colds, runny noses, sore throats and lightheadedness as the show’s all-important Hollywood week rolled on.

The determination and ruthlessness was evident to see despite the depleted resources, awkwardly one of the members of Handy's group, Johnny Keyser, kept singing after Handy fainted next to him, before Randy Jackson waved him off.

The group performances saw several Type A personalities have difficulty in working together, with those who made it through having the opportunity to perform solo for the judges once again.

And while he threw his individual performance together at the very last minute, hopeful Reed Grimm showed that sometimes working under pressure pays off.
